Plans and your licence

What Free, the trial, Pro and the one-time purchase include, how usage is counted, and how to add, move and remove Macs.

Everything about your plan is in Settings, Plan: what your plan includes, what you have used this month and today, your licence, your Macs and billing.

When you first sign in, you get 14 days of everything, with no card. After that you are on Free unless you buy. Library, Studio previews and checks, calendar planning and export are free on every plan.

How usage is counted#

  • A post counts when you press Prepare in Studio, once each month for each post as it will be published: its title and its web address (the slug). Preparing it again does not count again while both stay the same, even after you edit the text. A new title or web address is a new post, also in the same file.
  • An Engage action counts when you accept a suggestion, once per suggestion.
  • When a Free limit is reached, Pressmark tells you calmly what Pro adds and what it costs. Not now closes it. Nothing you made is deleted or locked, and export is always free.

Signing in#

Enter your email in Sign in and press Send the code. Type the code from the email. That starts your trial on this Mac, or restores a purchase made with that address. Only your email address and this Mac's random licence id are sent; Pressmark never reads a hardware identifier. Nothing is sent before you start signing in or enter a licence code.

The box for tips during the trial and news about Pro is unticked; tick it only if you want those emails.

Adding a licence code#

Sign in first, then paste the code from your receipt into Enter a licence code and press Add to this Mac. If your account already owns a licence, Use your licence on this Mac does the same without the code.

Your Macs#

A paid licence works on two Macs at once. To use it on a third Mac, remove one of the others: Pressmark shows the two Macs when you add the code, or you can remove one any time under Macs. A removed Mac keeps all its work and uses the Free plan. After three removals in 30 days, removing another has to wait for a while; support can help sooner.

Working offline#

Pressmark checks your licence with the licence service once a day when you are online. Offline, your plan keeps working for up to 21 days; the Plan tab shows how many days are left. After that it uses the Free plan until you reconnect, and nothing is deleted.

If your Mac's clock moves back, Pressmark keeps using the latest time it has seen until it can check online. Nothing else changes.

If Pressmark cannot verify its records#

Pressmark keeps a record of licence events on your Mac, checked against a key in your Keychain. If that record does not check out (for example after restoring an old copy of your workspace), Pressmark uses the Free plan until it can check with the licence service, and says so. Nothing is deleted. Show the licence history in the Plan tab lists every entry.

Cancelling and billing#

Cancel your subscription in the Plan tab opens the billing portal, where cancelling is one click. Your plan runs until the end of the period you paid for. Legal notice and Privacy are linked there and on the sign-in step.

Development build#

A copy of Pressmark run from its source shows Development build in the Plan tab. It has every feature and checks no licence. The app you download never runs this way.
