Privacy notice

Last updated: 4 November 2026. Deutsche Fassung

This notice covers this website and the early access list. The Pressmark app has its own privacy notice, which comes with it.

1. Who is responsible

[FIRST NAME LAST NAME], Pressmark, [STREET AND NUMBER], [POSTCODE CITY], Germany. Email: [EMAIL ADDRESS].

We are not required to appoint a data protection officer. For privacy questions, write to the address above.

2. In short

This site sets no cookies and uses no advertising tools. Only if you agree, it counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, also without cookies. We process only what is needed to run the site, what you type into our forms and, with your consent, those visit counts. We never sell data.

3. Visiting the site (hosting)

The site is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you visit, Cloudflare processes your IP address, date and time, the page requested, the previous page, and your browser and operating system. This is needed to deliver the pages and protect the site from attacks and abuse. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in a working and secure site. Cloudflare acts as our processor under Art. 28 GDPR. We keep no server log files ourselves. To show prices with the right VAT, the site reads the country Cloudflare derives from your request; it is not stored.

4. Browser storage and privacy choices

This site sets no cookies. If you use the light and dark switch, your browser remembers your choice in its local storage (entry "pm-theme"). If you start on a short form, your browser hands your email address to the full form through its session storage (entry "pm-email") and deletes it as soon as the full form has read it. Your privacy choice is kept in local storage too (entry "pm-consent"), so we do not ask again. All three are needed only for functions you use yourself or to respect your choice (section 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG). The theme and email entries are not sent to us; we receive your email address only when you submit the form. You can delete these entries in your browser at any time.

Visit counting, only with your consent

If you choose "Accept all" or turn on "Visit counting" under Privacy settings, your browser loads a script from Cloudflare Web Analytics (Cloudflare, Inc., USA). It reads technical details of each page view, such as the page address, the referring page, how long the page took to load, and your browser, operating system and screen size, and sends them to Cloudflare. Cloudflare receives your IP address with the connection; it says it does not use it, cookies or other identifiers to recognise visitors or follow them across sites. We see only totals, such as visits per page and referring sites, and use them to learn which pages help writers decide. Legal basis: your consent (section 25(1) TDDDG for reading information on your device, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR for the processing). Cloudflare acts as our processor. How long: [retention period of Web Analytics data, from Cloudflare's documentation]. Without your consent the script is never loaded. You can withdraw your consent at any time under "Privacy settings" at the bottom of every page, with effect for the future.

Record of your choice

When you make or change a choice, we store a random ID made by your browser, the time, the version of the banner and your choices, without your IP address or anything else that names you, so that we can show that you consented (Art. 7(1) GDPR; legal basis Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR). We delete these records after three years.

We use no advertising or marketing tools.

5. Early access list

When you join, we store your email address (required) and, if you give them, your Substack address, your answers about how you write, your first jobs and your device, and the plan and billing period you picked. We also store which page and button you came from, the name of the referring site, the country your request came from (derived by Cloudflare from the request) and the time. We do not store your IP address.

Purposes and legal bases:

  1. We email you about early access and the launch of Pressmark, including offers such as the founding price. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). So that only you can sign yourself up, we first send one email with a confirmation link (double opt-in). You get further emails only after you confirm. We delete unconfirmed entries after 30 days.
  2. We use your optional answers to decide what to build first and to hold the plan you picked (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
  3. We look at page, button, referring site and country to learn which pages and messages work (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in improving our offer).

You can withdraw your consent at any time with the link in every email or by writing to us. Withdrawal applies from then on.

Where: a database at Cloudflare (Cloudflare D1), Cloudflare acting as our processor. How long: until early access ends, you leave the list or you ask us to delete it, whichever comes first, and at most 24 months. When you leave, we delete your details and keep only a scrambled form of your email address with the times you signed up, confirmed and left, as proof of your consent, for at most three years. Required: without an email address we cannot notify you. Everything else is optional.

6. Sending emails

Confirmation emails are sent through Cloudflare's email service, Cloudflare acting as our processor. [If launch emails use another provider: name and seat of that provider, and the basis for any transfer outside the EU] We do not track whether you open our emails or click links.

7. Contacting us

If you write to us, we process your message and contact details to answer you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where it concerns a contract or a request before one, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We delete the message when the matter is closed, unless the law requires us to keep it longer.

8. Transfers outside the EU

Cloudflare, Inc. is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (Art. 45 GDPR); the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses apply as well (Art. 46 GDPR).

9. Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20). You can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3)). Write to [EMAIL ADDRESS].

Right to object

Where we rely on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, you may object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21 GDPR). You may object to email marketing at any time without giving reasons.

Complaints

You can complain to a data protection authority (Art. 77 GDPR), for example in the country where you live. The authority responsible for us is [AUTHORITY, ADDRESS, WEBSITE].

10. No automated decisions

We make no decisions based solely on automated processing and do no profiling (Art. 22 GDPR).

11. Changes

If our processing changes, we update this notice. The version published here applies.

Datenschutzerklärung

Stand: 4. November 2026

1. Wer verantwortlich ist

[VORNAME NACHNAME], Pressmark, [STRASSE HAUSNUMMER], [PLZ ORT], Deutschland. E-Mail: [E-MAIL-ADRESSE].

Schreiben Sie dazu an [E-MAIL-ADRESSE].

Widerspruchsrecht
